Hotel rankings answer a question about comfort. A business traveller asks another one: how long will it take me to get to my meeting, and how long to get back?
In Dakar, that question has a measurable answer, and it discriminates more than any number of stars.
Four areas, four uses
The Plateau — institutions
The tip of the peninsula concentrates the ministries, the presidency, bank headquarters, embassies and the port. If your meetings are with public bodies, diplomats or financial institutions, you stay there and you walk.
It is also the area where city noise is most present, and where parking a group coach is most difficult. For an individual traveller, it is the best choice. For a group of fifty, it is a logistical constraint to examine.
Venues in this area in our database: Hôtel Le Ndiambour, Résidences Mamoune, among others.
Corniche Ouest and Les Almadies — business hotels
This is where most of Dakar's international hotels are found: rooms to the standard expected by senior management, equipped meeting rooms, on-site dining and ocean views.
The trade-off is the distance to the Plateau: thirty minutes off-peak, an hour or more in the morning. For a seminar held in the hotel, it does not matter. For a series of meetings in town, it means an hour and a half in the car every day.
It is the default choice for a residential seminar in Dakar itself — work, lunch and overnight in the same place, without a single transfer.
Diamniadio — congresses
A new hub located between the airport and Dakar, Diamniadio concentrates the country's congress capacity and hotels built to support it. Its operational advantage is decisive: participants never enter Dakar.
A delegate landing at Blaise Diagne is at the hotel in a quarter of an hour. For three hundred people, this alone changes the transfer budget and removes the main risk of a late start to the opening plenary.
On the other hand, evening entertainment is more limited there than in town. It is an area made for dense programmes, not for stays that combine work and discovery.
Petite Côte — residential seminars
Saly, Pointe Sarène, Nianing: thirty to thirty-five minutes from the airport, beach hotels with seminar rooms, and the capacity to accommodate an entire group on a single site.
It is the area for programmes of two to four days combining working sessions and an incentive element. It only makes sense if you have no meetings in Dakar: the drive back up to the capital takes an hour and a quarter.
The decision table
The rule
If your programme takes place in the hotel, choose the hotel. If your programme takes place in town, choose the district — the hotel comes next.
The six questions to ask before booking for a group
A room can be booked online. A group cannot. Here is what you should obtain in writing before committing to anything.
- The number of rooms actually available on your dates, not the venue's total capacity. These are two different figures, and the first source of unpleasant surprises.
- Meeting-room capacity by layout — theatre, classroom, U-shape, banquet, cocktail. A “200-person room” says nothing: 200 for a cocktail can mean 80 in classroom style.
- The release date for the room block and the tiered cancellation terms.
- What is included in the room hire: sound system, projector, screen, internet connection, breaks. The items not included account for most of the gap between two quotes that looked comparable.
- Coach access and the drop-off point. On some sites, a coach cannot manoeuvre.
- The name and direct line of the person who will handle the file during the event — not the generic reservations address.
What we check on your behalf
These six questions are exactly the ones we ask venues before listing them, and the ones we ask again when a brief comes in. Meeting-room capacities by layout are shown in our profiles, venue by venue.
An organiser who submits a project receives proposals broken down under the same headings, making it possible to compare quotes that otherwise cannot be compared.
Journey times given as orders of magnitude, under normal traffic conditions, in September 2026. The capacities and availability mentioned in our profiles are declared by the venues and marked as verified once they have confirmed them in writing.
