Three business tables in Dakar, ranked by what you do there

A business lunch is not a break. It is a working session held sitting down, with an implicit agenda and an end time. The choice of table decides part of the outcome.

Most lists of restaurants in Dakar are written for holidaymakers. They answer the question “where can you eat well?”. A business traveller asks a different question, narrower and more demanding: where can I take this person, on this day, for what I have to tell them?

It is not the same enquiry. And the answer depends less on the food than on four parameters that guides never mention.

The four criteria that decide

The noise level. A table where you cannot hear each other is an unusable table. It is the first reason a negotiation lunch fails, and nobody dares say so during the meal.

The round-trip journey time. In Dakar, a lunch three districts away consumes half the afternoon. If your meeting resumes at 15:00, the table must be in your district — not in the one you prefer.

The ability to seat a group without negotiation. Eight people arriving together is a room constraint. Some tables that are excellent for two become unworkable for eight.

What the address says about you. An institutional contact reads the choice of venue as a message. Too modest, and they feel taken lightly; too ostentatious, and they wonder who is paying.

The most useful rule

Choose the district first according to your agenda, then the address. The reverse produces days when you spend more time in the car than in meetings.

1. The negotiation lunch — La Fourchette, Plateau

A French restaurant in the heart of the Plateau, a few minutes from the ministries, bank headquarters and diplomatic missions. Air-conditioned dining room, unhurried service, enough space between tables for a conversation to remain a conversation.

This is the address to remember when the purpose of the lunch is an agreement to discuss, a disagreement to settle or a proposal to defend. Discretion here is part of the equipment, not the atmosphere.

Avoid it if you are looking for a Senegalese culinary discovery: that is not what the house is about.

2. The quick lunch between two meetings — Le Farid, Plateau

Lebanese cuisine, mezze, brisk service. The professional benefit of the format is structural: the mezze arrive as they are ready, so you can start talking straight away instead of waiting for a main course.

This is the table for the tight lunchtime slot, when you have an hour and a quarter and not a minute more. It works as well for two as for six.

3. The delegation dinner — Le Lagon 1, Petite Corniche

A seafood restaurant built over the water, east of the Corniche. It is one of the few addresses in Dakar that makes an immediate impression on a visitor discovering the city: you dine above the ocean, and it shows from the first photo your guest sends home.

This is the table for the opening dinner, the one that sets the scene before work begins. For a foreign delegation arriving at the end of the day, it does the job three brochures could not.

Book ahead. A group that turns up in the evening without a reservation cannot be sure of being seated together.

What to know before booking for a group

Three reflexes prevent most incidents.

Key takeaway

The best restaurant is not the one you would recommend to a friend on holiday. It is the one in your district, where you can hear each other, and that can seat your group at the time announced.

This list is short, and deliberately so

We only cite addresses we have checked deliver on their promises for business use. Others will follow as we test them. If you know one that deserves a place here — or if one of these has disappointed you — write to us: that is exactly what interests us.

And for the event's own meals

A working lunch for six is booked. A congress lunch for three hundred is ordered — and it is a different operation, involving a caterer, a venue, service logistics and a budget per guest.

It is the kind of item we have several operators price on the same basis, so that proposals can be compared line by line.

Addresses noted in Dakar in September 2026. Districts, cuisine styles and room layouts are given as an indication and may change; we correct them as the venues confirm them to us. Teral Travel receives no payment from the restaurants mentioned.
